STONES RIVER

LOCATION: Stones River National Cemetery, Murfreesboro, TN
Stones River maintains a Microsoft Access database containing information on individuals buried in the cemetery. There are approximately 9000 entries. Somerset developed an interactive touch screen kiosk program for the new Visitors Center which allows visitors to search the database for names of people who are buried in the cemetery. As the visitor types the name (using an on-screen keyboard), a list appears with all names corresponding to the typed information. The list updates itself in real-time as the visitor continues to type letters. The visitor may scroll through this list. Clicking on a name in the list brings up a screen with information known about the individual. The program was constructed so that park personnel can easily incorporate photographs of the individual gravestones as they became available. After installing the kiosk software, Somerset then converted the program to HTML and PHP for hosting on the web to allow access to the same information over the Internet.
